A little history of the Dixie 7...

The Dixie 7 is a group of local musicians from southeastern Virginia, varying in age and background, who share a common bond – the love of music. In 2004, Jim Harding got together with a few friends and brought up the idea of starting a Dixieland band. It didn’t take long to convince them, and shortly thereafter, the Dixie 7 was born.
In its early days, the band rehearsed in a barn in the Great Dismal Swamp area of Virginia Beach. Their first performance was at a school near Fentress Field.
Since then, there have been a few changes to the group. The band has given up the barn and the swamp and now rehearse in a church social hall in Portsmouth. They have performed at many churches, schools, and conventions throughout Hampton Roads. Many of the current members are active participants in a Portsmouth-based community concert band, and three are original Dixie 7 members.
One thing that hasn’t changed is the band’s love of making music and the great friendship among its members. So, together, we are the Dixie 7; offering a variety of Dixieland, Polkas, a little Jazz, and a whole lot of fun for any occasion.
